Henry Nicholls, a batter, has been called up to the squad to cover for him at bat. He will practice with the team today morning in Wellington.

During the second Twenty20 International on Friday against Australia, Conway took a blow on his left thumb. After that, he was compelled to leave the field, and Finn Allen took over at shortstop for the rest of the inning.

According to New Zealand Cricket on Wednesday, Conway’s left thumb was damaged during fresh scans performed in Wellington yesterday, which led to the decision to rule him out.

It further said that a follow-up report would be given later this week after more medical evaluation to determine the full degree of the injuries and the ultimate diagnosis.

“It’s disappointing for Devon to be ruled out on the eve of an important match,” coach Gary Stead said. He bats in the top of the order for us and is a quality player. I know he was eager for this series.

Stead greeted Nicholls’ return to the team as well. “Having a player of Henry’s caliber at your disposal is fantastic. He fills a variety of roles in our batting order and has a ton of Test experience.

With a 75 percent win-loss ratio, New Zealand is now atop the World Test Championship rankings, followed by Australia in third place with a 55 percent win-loss %.
