The fast bowler said on social media that his leg was fractured as a consequence of a “freak training incident.”

Before departing for India for the IPL last Thursday, Behrendorff was batting in the nets when a ball missed his pad and whacked him flush right above the left ankle, shattering his left fibula. This happened at the WACA field.

The 33-year-old Australian player, however, will not need surgery; instead, he will need to heal for around eight weeks, which will keep him out of the IPL. Additionally, it may result in his possible absence from the June 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

“Unfortunately, last week during training, there was a bizarre accident that fractured my leg. It was merely a very unfortunate situation; nobody was at fault. Being a member of the MI family has been wonderful, and I am very sad that I will not be attending the IPL this year. In an Instagram post, Behrendorff said, “I hope the Mumbai Indians have a great season and that I’ll get to return next year.

As the current T20I player of the year for Australia, the left-arm bowler was a key member of our bowling squad last season, taking 14 wickets in 12 matches. He may have been a reliable backup bowling option for them.

In five Australian matches during the 2023 tours of South Africa and India, he claimed eight wickets with a strike rate of 16.50 and an economy rate of only 6.60.

After playing the home series against the West Indies, Behrendorff was left out of Australia’s team due to the return of the pace trio of Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Mitchell Starc in the most recent Twenty20 International series in New Zealand.

Teams have until May to submit their first squads to the ICC, thus, Behrendorff’s selection is crucial since Nathan Ellis and Spencer Johnson are already vying for a spot in the T20 World Cup squad.

Behrendorff is slated to make his cricketing comeback in the T20 Blast in England, which is set to start on May 31.
